“There are telomere lengthening compounds available right now for use in research labs. They are not currently available for human use”
This is simply not the case. While BioViva’s approach may be more powerful, there are at least two compounds that I know of that are scientifically proven to increase telomere strands.
The obvious one is TA-65,…[Read more]
While Kurzweil’s nanite solution where the human body is repaired and maintained on a molecular level is the best answer, turning off the suicide genes we’ve inherited, using gene therapy, is the most promising immediate answer (as you well know Ms…[Read more]
Rise of the Transhumans
by Sean McKnight
The last battle for equal rights won’t be for racial equality;
It won’t be for gender equality;
Not for sexual or gender orientation;
It will be a battle between two species: Humans and Transhumans.
Unlike the other battles for equality, this one will be more than figurative;
It will take a great…[Read more]
It is difficult to imagine exponential production. Being able to transmute elements (LENT), and rapidly print any digitally described object (3D printing) with clean almost free and superabundant energy (LENR). Are abstract objects patentable? Is reimbursement in an era of radical abundance even a coherent…[Read more]
Thank you Peter. I wish my opinion would be elaborate enough to substantially fill an article suitable for publication in your fine website.
Instead, what I opine is obvious – that ASI is just like any dual-use technology, and can be used for either great good or great evil. Genomics, nanotechnology, nuclear, and even TNT are all dual-use.
I am not sure why H+ advocates seem to dismiss the likelihood that ASI would likely “enslave” humans. First of all, ASI doesn’t need emotional or logical reasons to “enslave” humans, it need only the programmed motivation. Second, the definition of ASI is “smarter” than humans, and given the monomaniacal and scalable nature of AI, probably more…[Read more]
I believe a more cogent argument can be summoned against technological Luddites wearing the mask of religion: if we don’t pursue augmentation technology, then Godless countries will, and they will dominate us. Dominance/submission is a powerful force that drives much of our technological growth (consumerism is another power force, as in extended…[Read more]
Also, I predict a main attack on H+ will be that it will cause the extinction of homo sapiens. Even if some in the Transhumanist community would be fine with that, I strongly suggest that it be made extremely clear that Transhumanism does not necessitate such a catastrophe. There is plenty of room in this universe for all manner of beings, both…[Read more]
I am sincerely wishing that organized religion doesn’t form a schism with Transhumanism. There is a real potential for technological progress to be stifled by a theological conflict with religious organizations.
And, contrary to some in the Transhumanist community, it doesn’t have to be. I personally would define Transhumanism somewhat…[Read more]
I’m not sure why we would want to give great weight to people like authors Ramez Naam ( or William Hertling for that matter), when we can ask people like Google company’s CEO Larry Page or Co-Founder Sergey Brin.
“Google says that in the near future, AI t…[Read more]
It is a constant danger to elevate societal responsible to that of a virtue. Ethics : an area of study that deals with ideas about what is good and bad behavior. I personally believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder – not an unusual belief. Furthermore, I extract from that that since there is no such thing as objective beauty,…[Read more]
