Off to an awfully bad start with that (so careful, well thought out and researched) definition of intelligence. Even Kurzweil can come up with a better one.

He desires (consciously or otherwise) precisely that: Not to be associated with utopianism even while wanting to be optimistic.
Probably trying to avoid historical associations and/or believing he can mitigate a wave of neo ludittes. (another example of misplaced fear? lol)
Another frequent statement is “he’s no pollyanna”, this is a theme…[Read more]

Humans have Free Will IF — and only if — they choose to. ; )

Nonsense.
If anything, it would be more likely to fight among themselves for “monkey rights”, just as monkeys fight for “animal rights”. But even this fail to consider true intelligence. (which includes empathy)
Some kind of educational effort by those generous enough to donate a few nanoseconds of their time to bring more monkeys to join…[Read more]

I had some complaints about people being “spammed” by the mail system and so it was turned off. Unfortunately, I can not turn it on for some and not others.

I’m not morally enhanced and already get quite disgusted by most monkeys’ day to day amorality. (let alone the downright immorality)
This will only serve to increase suicide rates or, at the very least, regurgitation rates. =)
I wonder if the talk says anything about that (is the “ethics” concerned here towards the enhanced?). I’ll comment…[Read more]

Yes, I actually agreed with you: perhaps the argument should be ironed out further. But now that you mention:
> . Do you agree that that is the ultimate test of the idea?
I’m not sure. I don’t think utilitarianism is the ultimate test (or ultimate anything for that matter)… I insist on…[Read more]

“Do you agree that that is the ultimate test of the idea”?
Do you need to be shot, to prove that Russian roulette is dangerous? And that I’d be wrong to spin a wheel that will select a random participant?

“Was it ever that”?
If you accept evolution as true, then yes, there was a time when we didn’t have the intellectual capacity to know the consequences of our actions.

I’m not sure now, because later you mention I said something which I don’t remember saying. What I did say was that Free Will should be the judging parameter (it must be cleverly defined to work tho) and, since we can’t ask people if they want to be born or not, that’s more akin to something…[Read more]
