Women in Science Video Project: Synthetic Biology Research

The Girl Scouts of Northern California made this short video about synthetic biology development engineer Elysse Grossi-Soyster as part of a series on female scientists and engineers. Short but sweet.

Elysse works at a UCSC (University of California at Santa Cruz) affiliated lab located at Nasa Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley and she gives a brief explanation of synthetic biology and explains how NASA is starting to look at using biology and engineered biological systems as part of their plans for extended space travel and space habitation. She works with genetically engineered bacteria and is doing work focused on waste processing and life support.
