Review: The Transhuman Identity Thesis

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 2.12.13 PMThis is a quick little short video that I found recently. This video explains a bit about transhumanism and the nature of personhood, and it’s short and a good introduction for a very impatient friend. It’s also a “a documentary in progress” and at less than three minutes you’ll possibly be left wanting a bit more.

Sadly, the film ends on an off note by hinting at a negative outcome in a future when people no longer face any challenges. Although I agree in a sense with this assessment, this sort of world was covered by Michael Moorcock in his Dancers at the End of Time series for example, I don’t really agree that we’re going to find ourselves without substantial challenges at any time in the foreseeable future.

While it is popular to sound these sort of cautionary notes, there is no real reason to expect or suppose a “world without challenges” awaits us at all. We do foresee and imagine a world full of amazing adventures filled with both challenges and opportunities as yet unimagined.

Otherwise this is a pretty tasty h+ “espresso” hit.
