Elysium is the recently released science fiction film starring Matt Damon with a quasi-transhumanist theme.
Set in a hypothetical future, the year 2154, the very wealthy elite live on Elysium, a utopian orbital metropolis that is free of crime, war, poverty, hunger, and diseases. Meanwhile, the majority of humans live in an overpopulated, ruined dystopian Earth below.
Scott Kravitz (Lead Animator) and Mitchell Stuart (Concept Artist) for Elysium will appear at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra California. They will share rare behind the scenes artwork by artists from the production design, storyboards, and visual development team.
Unfortunately, the film casts the transhumanists as the citizens of Elysium — wealthy elitists who have access to private medical machines that offer instant cures for disease; a technology which they somewhat inexplicably deny to the normal citizens of Earth below.
The look of the film is impressive however, and transhumanists may still find the film concept art quite inspiring and interesting.
