Keanu Reeves. Photo: gawker.comVariety reports that a film called Passengers, currently in "advanced negotiations," has signed on Keanu Reeves for a most excellent adventure. On a "centuries-long interstellar voyage," he will — thanks to a computer glitch — wake up 90 years before everybody else and consume all the chips and beer, leaving only the bio-pork behind for his fellows. Or something like that. According to the Variety article, "Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he, in turn, awakens a beautiful woman." So they’re traveling thousands of years across interstellar space and they haven’t dealt with lifespan yet? Presumably Keanu got the full body freeze, otherwise he would have awakened as a beautiful woman. Excellent!

Is this yet another B.S. Scientology flick?

Is this yet another B.S. Scientology flick?

That’s the thing with futuristic movies they always focus on one or 2 advancements they think will occur by say year 2090 but everything else is more or less like it was in 2010 !!! Yay !!!
No, that is just stupid. The future is not just one major advancement but many multiple changes.
Some movies focus on AI but forget about Virtual Reality ,Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, advances in Quantum physics and so forth, it is always a fractured projection into the future hence why it is complete BS.

Unfortunately this problem seems to manifest itself in most modern sci-fi movies, with rare exceptions, personally I think movies like Blade Runner, Moon and District 9 are closer the mark. I don’t think either the general audience or the writers are accelaware.

It’s a movie, not a time a space-time projection into the future you moron.

Also the racial composition of the cast in sci-fi movies happens to reflect the composition of end 20st century america: mostly whites with a black and brown face thrown in here and there. I guess sci-fi directors are not aware that whites will become a minority in most western countries in a couple of decades. Or perhaps there are commercial reasons why they didn’t use an all-hispanic cast in a flick like Avatar.

    Ok “moron”

But most if not all futuristic movies fall to that trap.

Can I get in line here to be the woman Keanu awakens for himself? Keanu is a God! Perfectly original and just more talented and sexier every year. R. U. Sirius has a ton of reasons to be jealous of him (it shows by writing snide comments like his,) but he’s never going to be as rich, famous, popular or talented as this much loved star is, has been and will be! Not even in the very distant future. Keanu has been a popular major motion picture star for decades and has tremendous staying power. He gets paid the industry maximum by those who know a heck of a lot more than R.U.

R.U. Sirius can’t say the same.
