I’ll be blogging all next week from Singularity University.
Singularity University has declared a grand goal of "preparing the next generation of leaders to address humanity’s grand challenges."
Topics of class lectures for the first week of classes include: "Overview of AI & Robotics," taught by Neil Jacobstein, Peter Norvig, and Ray Kurzweil) and "Adaptation: Failure is an Option," taught by ex-astronaut Dan Barry, which will review and analyze successful and failed explorations around the world, and the roles of leadership, teamwork, local resources, communication, and remote support within the various scenarios.
(Pictures below are all from the Second Curriculum Planning Meeting, which took place March 27-28, 2009 at NASA Ames Research Park.)

Glad to hear that and hope to read you every day! Cheers!
I’m watching, waiting, and hoping. Still, in light of human history, I’ll keep my amulet around my neck!
The best to all your efforts.
“HDAI (Human Directed Artificial Intelligence) I predict that human brain directed artificial intelligence (wirelessly, through the eyes of an android, or maybe, someday transferred) will become the next imposing advance in artificial intelligence. We should give priority to the merging of human and artificial intelligence, the first truly human artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence will never be holistic without biological senses. Humans will merge with artificial intelligence and a hybrid will inherit the Earth. If there is an apocalypse in which evil is destroyed, this would be it. Nevertheless, will the first of these super beings desire to assume all power? Will the appearance of such an entity usher in an age of good…or evil? Either way, the past was bad enough, and the future holds the only hope for a better world.”~Beaver
I look forward to hearing how this goes. There is has been some skepticism, not from me, and I hope that this university gives pause to the critics.
I hope to hear about what they think of the economics of the transition period. I believe there will be rough times for some segments. Fundamental concepts will tested for traditional thinkers.
I am looking forward with great excitement (and appreciation) to news from Singularity University. This is certainly one of the most important events in the unfolding of the human future and the begining of the post-human era.
This is a momentous occasion. The concept of the Singularity is becoming more mainstream by having this significant organisation devote its entire focus to it.
Hopefully it will become a driving force to guide the rest of humanity, unaccustomed to exponential growth, to learn about the magnificent future ahead of us.
Best of luck!!
I am as excited about our future as many other people who understand the singularity. I am also very impressed that humanity gets the gift of a univerity dedicated to solve humanities grand challenges. As many other people who would be very interested to join or at least to follow whats going on there I very much appreciate Lisas effort to share with us her view on the first curriculum.
THANKS
